""For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth,...so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which it was sent."" ~Isaiah 55:10-11(ESV) (ESV)
Dear Praying Friends,
We are now only a couple days at the close of 2021. What a year it has been! But through it all, God remained faithful as we continued to proclaim His truth in Word and deed. Thank you for your partnership in the ministry of the Gospel.
Brief Update on Earthquake Relief:
Thanks to everyone who participated in the $500,000 matching fund challenge. 80% of this was met. These funds were used to accomplish the following:
- 8 churches restored (photo of La Hatte Church to right)
- 7 churches are under construction awaiting material
- Bon Berger Church, downtown Cayes, has laid the foundation. The new construction will use steel containers
- 10 homes are being built for the poorest of the poor in St. Louis
- 3 leaders/pastors homes completely rebuilt
- 5 schools are restored and functioning well
- $75K worth of food purchased and distributed over the Christmas in four departments/states: Sud(Cayes), Grand-Anse (Jeremie), Artibonite (Gonaives) and Central Plateau (Mirebalais)
- In 2022, ESMI will assist a prominent college in Les Cayes in rebuilding
We give the glory to God for making this all possible.
2021 - YEAR IN REVIEW
There is alot we wanted to share before the earthquake struck on August 14. We will take this time to briefly review some of the highlights of 2021 using three of ESMI's 4-Es.
Evangelism
- At the end of 2020, a very generous donor sponsored the expansion of ESMI's radio ministry. Under Louis St. Germain's leadership, this radio ministry now operates 24/7 throughout the Sud, Sudest and Grand'Anse departments, reaching 2 million listeners; and for 8 hours each day, it is heard across the island of 10 million people and into the Dominican Republic.7 churches are under construction awaiting material
- The presbyteries report that there were 4,208 conversions in 2021. Most of them came to know the Lord after the earthquake through the radio ministry. To God be the glory!

- MERH/Reformed Churches of Haiti had first General Assembly in May
- ESMI is slowly developing a ministry in the Dominican Republic using TNT (Training National Trainers) with WordPartners.

Education
- In 2020, a virtual online school, in English, was established by Guedy St. Germain and Leopald Jean-Bart for the students at Cambry. To date, there are 103 students enrolled, and in April, the senior students hope to take their ACT. Very grateful to our ministry partner for sponsoring this program which is now in it's second year.
- Over the past 18 months, ESMI's University of Jeremie has been working with the University of Tennessee Institue of Agriclture (UTIA). Grateful for their partnership as they have helped UJ to evaluate her strengths and weaknesses, and to develop a 10-year strategic plan. Pray that God will provide the staff and resources to accomplish these goals.
Empathy
- Encouraging reports from the Children's Villages/Centers-all the children are well. Eighty-one of them have received their covid vaccines. We are seeking 2,000 more vaccines.
- Grateful for ministry partners who see the God-given potential in our children at the different villages. To date, ESMI has 5 students in Port-au-Prince: 2 studying medicine, 1 in administraion and 1 in law. Then there are 6 in medical school in Cuba, and one in Canada.
- Construction of the Widow's Compound began sometime in late 2020/early 2021 and will be completed, Lord willing, in January 2022. This compound has 20 cluster homes and will house 20 widows who will be house-mothers to our transition girls. Pray with us for this new ministry endeavor in Jeremie.
CHURCH PLANTING -USA: El Shaddai Community Church (ESCC)
- On Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021, ESCC had her launch service with over 200 people in attendance.
- Over the summer, ESCC partnered with St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and Campus Crusade for Christ/CRU along with Athletes in Action (AIA) to host two weeks of VBS and Youth Camp respectively. (Photo: Sak Pase Youth Camp w/ CRU and AIA)
- ESCC campus is also home to El Shaddai Theological Seminary (ESTS) and the new US headquarters for El Shaddai Ministries International, Inc.
- ESTS has hosted a Women's Conference, two Marriage Conferences and weekly seminary classes on the campus
- Several men are currently in training to become ruling elders in the PCA
